Valuable solar panels were recovered and one suspect arrested after a robbery was nipped in the bud, in Pinetown on Tuesday night.
“The successful arrest and recovery of stolen goods occurred after Blue Security control centre received notification that suspects had been observed, in CCTV footage, entering a manufacturing premises in a Caversham business complex on Tuesday evening,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.
“Backup arrived and the units, and onsite security guard, set off in pursuit of the trespassers. The two suspects were then heard running on the roof,” he said. “One suspect was later found injured on ground level hiding behind some machinery. Despite his head injury the suspect still attempted to resist arrest by producing a knife,” he said.
“The reaction officers secured the suspect until members of Pinetown SAPS attended the scene. A pair of pliers, two cellphones and the knife were found in his possession. The second suspect is still at large,” he said. “A more intensive search of the premises revealed where four expensive solar panels had been abandoned by the suspects during their attempt to evade arrest. It was established that the suspects gained entry to the premises by cutting the razor wire on top of the concrete fence,” he said. Pinetown SAPS attended the incident.
